The Young Athlete
Our team have a wealth of experience in the assessment and treatment of young athletes.
This is combined with working in varied elite sporting environments including the Olympic
and Paralympic Games. All the team have played sport themselves to a good level. Treated
athletes commonly include those competing in football, rugby, athletics, cricket, rally cross,
dance/ballet and gymnastics. We have a chaperone policy to offer you peace of mind.
We recognise that adolescent athletes have unique requirements in relation to adults. All
efforts are made to keep your child playing where possible, whilst offering bespoke
rehabilitation to their injury. This is combined with appreciating the influence of growth
spurts, nutrition, pressures from school and risk of over training.
Assessment
This involves understanding the root cause of the injury, the impact on your child
and the sport specific aims of the treatment.
Diagnosis
A detailed history is coupled with a physical assessment aimed at identifying
the underlying cause. We regularly receive referrals from Paediatric specialist doctors
and personal trainers. As a result this affords us great opportunity where necessary to
utilise a multi-professional approach to diagnose and onward conditioning beyond the
resolved injury.
Treatment
We construct specific approaches to the problems outlined. Your child will be assisted
through the rehabilitation process, assessing their progress throughout using evidence
based outcome measures.
Outcome
We implement return to sport tests at the conclusion of your child's rehabilitation.
This helps improve a safe return to sport and critically aims to prevent recurrence.
An on-field return is commonly done in conjunction with your child's coach to ensure
minutes are appropriately managed.
